Amazon announced a $1.3 billion investment to hire 250,000 people for full-time, part-time, and seasonal fulfillment center and transportation jobs across the United States.

Pay increases for customer fulfillment and transportation employees will bring the average pay for those roles to more than $20.50 per hour, with some locations offering as much as $28 per hour, the company indicated.

Amazon maintained it had increased hourly wages every year, investing more than $10 billion the past five years. In 2023, Amazon has continued to boost employee benefits, adding a new emergency savings program and a financial assistance pilot program that has helped save customer fulfillment and transportation employees nearly $20 million all available from day one of employment.

Employees will receive improved on-the-job safety training, Amazon stated. It offers health care starting on day one of employment, along with mental health, advanced cancer care, and 24/7 access to medical advice.

As the holidays approach, Amazon will be staffing up its facilities, including the more than 50 new fulfillment centers, delivery stations and same-day delivery sites opened in the U.S. this year, the company noted.
